I wish to congratulate the Organisers of the 6th Sabah International Expo (SIE) and the Sabah International Business Conference (SIBC) for their tremendous effort and consistency in putting these events together.

The Ministry of Industrial Development has always been working hand-in-hand with the Committee Members of the SIE and SIBC, for SIE2010 and SIBC2010 are no different. We are confident that SIE, as a State Government sanctioned biennial event will continuously achieve its main objective in providing in providing the key platform in the State to promote its trade and investment potentials to the business communities regionally and internationally.

Sabah is blessed with bountiful natural resources such as oil and gas, fertile agriculture land, minerals, forestry and bio-diversity (flora-fauna and marine life). In terms of location, Sabah is strategically located between the affluent markets o North Asia (eg. China, Korea and Japan) and the fast developing regions of the BIMP-EAGA (Southern Philippines, Kalimantan, Brunei) with prospective population of around 140 million. Investors are urged to capitalize on the impending market liberalisation driven by the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) for transshipment and add value to cargo between the developing countries in South East Asia and affluent North Asia.

I am delighted to learn that SIE2010 will feature key industries namely Agriculture, Tourism and Manufacturing, which outlines the direction of the State's development under the Hala Tuju Pembangunan dan Kemajuan Negeri Sabah. Development programmes on trade and investment ranging such from the One District One Industry (ODOP) to a State-wide holistic programme, the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) and other key investment projects will all be promoted during the event. The SIBC2010 will highlight the concern of climate change in general and emphasize on how implementation of greentech would minimize the impact on the environment.

SIE and SIBC would provide you with opportunities to meet, to share knowledge, ideas and to network with captains of industries, key government officials and the diplomatic corp from the surrounding regions.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the SIBC2010 and SIE2010.
